NFIB unit made European Law Enforcement 'Team of the Year'

The groundbreaking work of an NFIB unit has been rewarded on the European stage.

Operation Halo draws together credit and debit card intelligence from law enforcement and the financial sector to help police in the UK and across the Continent track down criminal gangs committing major frauds.

This key role in the fight against payment card crime was recognised when Barclaycard nominated Halo to be the International Association of Financial Crime Investigators’ European Law Enforcement ‘Team of the Year’.

DCI Richard Waight, who is the Deputy Director of the NFIB, travelled to Finland to collect the prize.

DCI Waight said:

“Operation Halo is recognised on the national and international stage for providing high quality fraud intelligence that is being used to combat crime.

“It was a real honour to collect this award on behalf of the team and hear how their work is helping other police forces track down fraudsters.”

The Fraud Control and Relationship Manager at Barclaycard, Chris Wright said:

“The work undertaken by Operation Halo is known across Europe and the globe. In 2010, there were a number of nominees for this award and the team should be proud they were selected as winners.”

SOCA welcomes the NFIB - for the first time we will have a comprehensive intelligence picture and understanding of the full scale of fraud in the United Kingdom. This will enable a co-ordinated and appropriate law enforcement response and create a hostile environment for fraudsters. Sharon Lemon, Deputy Director Head of High Tech Crime at SOCA
