Minister for Crime Prevention praises the work of the NFIB
James Brokenshire MP came to the City of London Police to see for himself how the Bureau is impacting on the fight against fraud.
The team showed how NFIB intelligence had led police to disrupt a major ticketing fraud and to launch an investigation into an alleged loan-repayments fraud.
They also highlighted how the ‘Know Fraud’ system had processed 42 million reports of fraud, and was linking pieces of criminal evidence to help break open other force’s criminal investigations.
Speaking after the visit the Minister said:
“I enjoyed an interesting and informative visit to the NFIB. It is clear that a great deal of hard work has gone into creating the NFIB and I was very impressed to see the capability of the NFIB, to learn about the valuable partnerships that have been established, and particularly to hear about how the NFIB is contributing to operational activity targeting fraudsters and organised criminals.”
The Head of Economic Crime at the City of London Police, Det Ch Supt Steve Head:
“We have a very good story to tell at the NFIB and are always pleased when we get the opportunity to relay this to a member of the Government.
“The visit of the Minister also highlighted how much progress has been made since the Attorney General and Solicitor General were with us in July, and was a reminder of the groundbreaking work being carried out at the Bureau.”
The Commissioner of the City of London Police welcomed the Minister to the NFIB headquarters and later led the debate on the future strategy of the Bureau and intelligence-led policing.
