Changing of the guard at the NFIB

National Fraud Intelligence Bureau

Detective Superintendent Tony Crampton becomes the new NFIB Director

There has been a changing of the guard at the NFIB with a new director joining the Bureau in September.

After four years at the helm Det Supt David Clarke has moved across to be the head of the City of London Police’s intelligence and covert resources, and has been replaced by Det Supt Tony Crampton.

Speaking before his departure Det Supt Clarke said:

“It has been an honour to lead this operation and I will leave knowing the foundations are firm for the NFIB to make a major impact on the fraud landscape.

“Getting here has not been easy. We had to overcome many obstacles and it is a tribute to the talent and commitment of the team and our partners that we have succeeded. I wish my successor well, and sincerely thank all those who have helped take us into this new era.”

Det Supt Crampton has been with the City of London Police for 7 years, working in Counter Terrorism and the Serious Crime Directorate.

Speaking on his first day in the job he said:

“I would like to pay tribute to all the work of Det Supt Clarke in developing the NFIB. Without his commitment and leadership we would not be at the point where the Bureau is working with police to crack down on fraudsters and helping the public and private sector become more resistant to fraud.

“Joining the NFIB team is an exciting challenge and I am looking forward to working closely with all our stakeholders to ensure the Bureau fulfils its potential and changes the way we detect and prevent fraud in the UK.”

SOCA welcomes the NFIB - for the first time we will have a comprehensive intelligence picture and understanding of the full scale of fraud in the United Kingdom. This will enable a co-ordinated and appropriate law enforcement response and create a hostile environment for fraudsters. Sharon Lemon, Deputy Director Head of High Tech Crime at SOCA
